The training course exposed the participants to basic web development techniques, graphic design, web hosting, storyboarding (a visual map that displays how web pages are linked together), and web protocols (how two internet capable devices communicate).
Danielle Piper, a representative from Jamaica Foundation for Children said although an information technology student, she learnt a lot using kompZer (an open source software used to build websites) and Photoshop (a photo editing an graphic design software).
Ann-Marie Astwood, the Foundations Manager said Cable & Wireless, “decided to use free software so they can continue working on their web skills after the training has ended.”
“It’s almost as if I am starting my career early,” said Laranzo Dacres who wants to be a computer engineer and web designer.
“The computer plays an important part in my life as I do a lot of computer courses at school. I am happy to now learn about web page design,” said Kerry Blake a student at the University of Technology (Utech), who participated in the training from Marverley.
CWJF is also giving a trainer from each group a tutorial CD to help train other members of the community organisations.
